Zero-foot-print test sockets handle SSD NAND and 3D XPoint chips
Time: 2020-03-26  |    |  20

New innovative SMT Grypper sockets from Ironwood include NAND, Controller, and Buffer sockets used in Solid State Drives, Cards and Modules. The Zero Foot Print (Grypper) sockets are available for the NAND and Open NAND Flash Interface (ONFi) Standard and also sockets for the new 3D XPoint devices. The socket is surface-mounted using standard soldering methods to the same location on the PCB.

The Grypper requires no lid, the device simply snaps into the socket. Because the Grypper contacts are only 1.5 to 2.2-mm long, the electrical performance is superior with S21 @ -1 dB to 40 GHz. Grypper sockets are the same size as the device allowing you to fit it into any of the SSD form factors; PCI, SATA, mSATA, M.2, U.2 etc,, and with its superior electrical performance it is ideal for the higher speed interfaces such as NVMe over PCI Express and 3d XPoint.  Pricing for an example of a 132 BGA socket Part Number: 104670-0032 at quantity four is $310.00 each.
